Hooking up the DCC

Published by pbtrains at 4:45 pm under Construction Edit This

The hooking up of the DCC system for me was nerve racking.  I bought a Digitrax Empire Builder system about 10 years ago.  I wanted it for a small switching layout that I had.  With just the 1 booster and 2 throttles, I knew that this wouldn’t be large enough for a mainline of about 250 feet.  So I puschased a second hand booster and one more throttle.  This seemed to do the trick.  With the layout divided into 4 sections, 1 booster would power 2 sections.  The only problem I ran accross was in the yard, right in the middle the locos would come to a stop on every track.  To fix this, I divided each section in half so now I have 8 power sections.  I have a toggle switch for each so I can turn off power to the helix when not in use.  For me the use of the DCC in purely for operation in that I can run trains in each direction.  It may sound crazy but I have no intrest in sound or fancy headlights.  But who knows, when the scenery is done it will be a new thing to explore.
